April 13, 2026 -- Proverbs 9:2-6 -- Invited to the Happy House of Wisdom

People loved by the Father, in the Spirit's power: Sh'ma ~ hear and obey Jesus!

2  She has slaughtered her beasts; she has mixed her wine;
she has also set her table.
3  She has sent out her young women to call
from the highest places in the town,
4  “Whoever is simple, let him turn in here!”
To him who lacks sense she says,
5  “Come, eat of my bread
and drink of the wine I have mixed.
6  Leave your simple ways, and live,
and walk in the way of insight.” Proverbs 9:2–6
The Holy Bible: English Standard Version (Wheaton, IL: Crossway Bibles, 2025).

A few days ago, we considered wisdom’s house; like creation which has wisdom in every part, so the home of the godly person has wisdom built into its foundation and is part of every room. The home of the wise is a place of appropriate feasting—which in the Bible anticipates the marriage feast of Jesus and His people (Revelation19).

The home of wisdom is proportionate. All that is done is carried out with a view to the goodness of God, the provision of God, the joy one finds in God. The house of wisdom is a place of teaching, where the simple, the wayward, those inclined to sin, are educated in righteousness, their feet are restrained from the pathways of scoffers, and the desires of sin are vanquished as the joy of the LORD fills their senses.

Beloved in the LORD, the world is constantly training your desires, your senses and your delights. The world is under the rule of the prince of this age, the devil. The house of wisdom shows you the better way. The house of wisdom teaches you that all who fail to find wisdom injure themselves and all who hate wisdom love death (Proverbs 8:36).

What is the banqueting table of your life? Are you living giving to God the leftovers of your life, while you pursue selfish desires? Or has wisdom’s invitation captured your heart so that all you desire is wisdom, which is whole-hearted devotion to Jesus, in the joy of the Holy Spirit, with a vision of the future that is anchored in the glories yet in store for you as the Father pours out His blessing on you?

Glorious Father in heaven, in Your presence are blessings forever more! By Your precious gift of wisdom, applied by Your Spirit to my mind, my desires, and my heart, pry my fingers from their death-grip to all that is simple, wayward and sinful. Give to me a holy hunger for the marriage feast of wisdom, the extravagant blessings of union with Jesus, so that my service to You, O God of Splendor, is not forced, reluctant, or parsimonious. In view of Your blazing beauty, O God my Father, captivated by the reconciling love of Jesus, command Your Spirit to bind my ever-prone-to-wandering soul to Jesus. Amen.
