October 20, 2026 -- Day Twenty of Joy: Isaiah 12:1-3

People loved by the Father, in the Spirit's power: Sh'ma ~ hear and obey Jesus!

You will say in that day:
“I will give thanks to you, O LORD,
    for though you were angry with me,
your anger turned away,
    that you might comfort me.
2 “Behold, God is my salvation;
    I will trust, and will not be afraid;
for the LORD God is my strength and my song,
    and he has become my salvation.”
3 With joy you will draw water from the wells of salvation.
Isaiah 12:1-3 ESV

Yes, the same series of verses as yesterday, but they are so rich and give such an excellent foundation for our joy that I couldn’t help but spend another day thinking about them with you. Notice that God is our strength and our joy. He is our strength in times when the Devil would accuse us of our past sins. He is our strength when the world would apply its pressures to follow their lead rather than following Jesus Christ. He is our strength because we know where our sins would lead us. (Same place they always do, to despair and heartbreak and humiliation that we are so dumb to fall for that again. Again. And again.)

Joy because the wells of salvation are always full.
Joy because the wells of salvation are always fresh.
Joy because the wells of salvation are always comforting.
Joy because the wells of salvation are always sating us so that compared to
     all that we have in Christ the temptations of the world are tawdry.
Joy because the wells of salvation are not judgmental—but are available to all
     who know their need for cleansing and healing.
Joy because the wells of salvation are provided for us individually (you at
     verse 1 is singular) and for us all together (you at verse 3 is plural).
Joy because the wells of salvation are provided by God the Father to draw from
     until the fullness of our salvation is completed!

Triune God—blessed Father, blessed Son, and blessed Holy Spirit—You are the source of joy, the foundation of all true joy, and the expectation of eternal joy! Holy Spirit, lift up my drooping head and raise my downcast eyes so that I will look to Jesus and with joy draw water from the wells of salvation. Amen.
