January 16, 2019 -- Psalm 2:11-12 -- Jesus the King
/Serve the Lord with fear,
and rejoice with trembling.
Kiss the Son,
lest he be angry, and you perish in the way,
for his wrath is quickly kindled.
Blessed are all who take refuge in him.
Psalm 2:11-12 ESV
Perhaps you are very familiar with this Psalm because of Handel's oratorio: "The Messiah". I love this setting of Psalm 2. The majestic challenge of this Psalm is for the people of the earth to quit their vain plotting and raging and acknowledge Jesus Christ as the LORD and serve Him.
The LORD of Glory preserved for Himself a people, the Jewish people, through whom He gave His laws, His promises and finally His Son--Jesus. Now Jesus--by flesh descended from King David--is the Eternal Son of God and by His descent from David the true King of both the Jewish people and the non-Jewish people. God's plan is one for the Jewish people and the non-Jewish people: acknowledge the Son.
Many people picture God as weak. As if He is pleading with the people and nations to obey. It is not so. He is the King All-Glorious and All-Powerful. He does not share His power nor compromise. As the One Who holds history in His hand, He shows the final end of all flesh: serve Jesus Christ alone as your King, or be swept away in His wrath to the agonies of hell.
The Jewish people must acknowledge Jesus as their Messiah. The cults, such as Muslims, Jehovah's Witnesses and Masons (and all others) which slander our King Jesus, will on the Day of Judgment be brought before the Terrible Throne of Justice and held to account for their blasphemies.
Blessed are those who take refuge in Jesus:
~Jesus answered them, “This is the work of God, that you believe in him whom he has sent.” John 6:29
Thank You, Father in heaven, for showing us the King of Your own choosing--the Ruler of Nations--Jesus. Spirit of the Living God, help us to tear down any contrary teaching or any false hope we might be trusting in, so that our hearts may be fully dedicated Jesus Christ. Amen.
