December 24, 2018 -- Psalm 27:4 -- The Beauty of Jesus

One thing I ask from the Lord,

this only do I seek:

that I may dwell in the house of the Lord

all the days of my life,

to gaze on the beauty of the Lord

and to seek him in his temple.

Psalm 27:4 NIV

He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to him,

nothing in his appearance that we should desire him.

He was despised and rejected by mankind,

a man of suffering, and familiar with pain.

Isaiah 53:2b-3c NIV

So, is the LORD beautiful or not? He is not beautiful as the world defines beauty. His beauty is not physical and is not used to sell products as our world exploits beauty today.

Jesus is beautiful in all His perfections: love, mercy, holiness.

Jesus is beautiful in all His teachings. He reveals the Father.

Jesus is beautiful in His sacrifice. He was punished for our sins.

Jesus is beautiful in the Word. Shows us the way of life.

Jesus is beautiful in Majesty.

Jesus is beautiful in His suffering. All through His life, then at the cross and in His death He endured it all with the joy set before Him of His Father's glory and the knowledge that salvation is thereby opened to all who believe.

Beautiful Saviour, I am blinded to all Your beauty. Open my eyes through the words of Scripture. Beautiful Saviour cause Your Spirit to percolate through every part of my being so that I am transfixed by Your beauty and will be lost in wonder, love and praise all this to the glory of the Father. Amen.
